Promoting British Values in the Early Years
British Values are embedded throughout our practice at Kinder Park Nursery, helping children develop confidence, respect, responsibility, and a sense of belonging.
Democracy
Children are encouraged to share their ideas, express their feelings, and take part in decision-making. Through activities such as collaborative projects, and group discussions, children learn that their voices matter. This could be as simple as collaboratively building a tower or den, creating a piece of art to display or growing plants where everyone takes a turn to water them.
Rule of Law
Children are supported to understand the importance of rules and how they help keep everyone safe and happy, staff have attended positive behaviour in the early years training. Together, we create shared expectations and encourage children to recognise the impact of their actions on others.
Individual Liberty
We promote independence by giving children opportunities to make choices, for example the ‘room leader’ choosing the snack, lead their own play outside and inside or simply choosing which book they would like to sit and read., and develop self-confidence. Children learn about their rights, responsibilities, and how to make safe and positive decisions.
Mutual Respect and Tolerance
We celebrate diversity and help children understand, respect, and value differences between people, cultures, faiths, and communities. Our environment, resources, and experiences promote inclusion and ensure every child feels welcomed, respected, and represented.
Through everyday experiences and meaningful interactions, we help children develop the skills and values needed to become respectful, confident, and active members of society.
